The Leigh-Smith Family - A Saltwater Dynasty

    Fairline 48 GT Launch @ The Sanctuary Cove Boatshow 2018       Leigh-Smith Yachts will host the latest Fairline 48 GT launch at SCIBS, with shares in the boat based at Sanctuary Cove available in a managed syndication Leigh-Smith Yachts will display an impressive line-up of world-class motor yachts at this year's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS), where the local Queensland boating family and business is one of only a few to display for all 30 years consecutive years of SCIBS. Making its Australian debut is the new 2018 Fairline Targa 48 GT, a stunning new model from the pen of designer Alberto Mancini with engineering by the highly awarded design studio Vripack. The Targa 48 is a sleek, streamlined vessel with three cabins and double ensuites, large saloon and a galley-up design well suited to the Australian boating lifestyle. The midships master cabin is large and well appointed. The second forward cabin has the versatility of converting from a V-berth to a double bed making the boat suitable for a family or two couples and the dinette can also convert to a third double bed. The electric hard top roof when opened lets light flood into the spacious, sociable upper deck that offers plentiful seating, a fold-out teak table and large sunbed.     Fairline lifts lid on Esprit concept boat at ExCeL    New concept Fairline Esprit is a hybrid-powered 30ft sportsboat designed with sustainability in mind Fairline has taken a leaf out of the automotive book and has turned up to the London Boat Show with an exciting concept design. The Fairline Esprit is a 30ft hybrid sportsboat that comes in cuddy cabin and bowrider forms and is designed to whip along at 30 knots from a single sterndriven 400hp diesel or motor silently at 5 knots under electric power. Sustainability was a key driving force behind the design, according to Fairline, which proposes using bio-derived epoxy resins in the construction and recycled synthetic composite teak for the decks. Resin infusion will keep things light to maximise performance and economy while LED lights throughout will keep power draw to a minimum. On the bowlder version, Fairline has designed a solar T-top that can fold away to cover the bow seating when not in use, the panels being used to power the ultrasonic antifouling system and keep batteries charged. One of the most exciting elements of the new design, and one which we hope to see on future boats, is a chartplotter and system information display built into the central boss of the steering wheel.     FAIRLINE SQUADRON 53 REVIEW by Motorboat Magazine     The first thing that strikes you when you set foot inside the saloon of the Fairline Squadron 53 is that it smells right. Bear with me on this. The smell is one of quality, of leather and wood, the sort of smell you would expect if you were to walk into a Bentley showroom. This sets the tone for an interior that, in terms of finish, is put together in the way that a Fairline should be.   It’s no secret that towards the end of the former Fairline regime, corners were being cut quite drastically – just read our report on the Squadron 48 from the January 2014 issue. There’s none of this on the 53 though – it’s all meticulously lacquered woods, diverse and rich textures and an air of quality that makes it feel a bit special.   The cabinet just aft of the lower helm encapsulates the new approach well. Its glossy lustre is bolstered by its design, which ignores the temptation to employ hard angles in an attempt to feel more contemporary and instead, sports soft curves and subtle fiddles.   Its fascia is a mix of leather panelling and stainless-steel highlighting, and it’s flanked by materials around the helm that blend soft-touch plastics with diamond-quilted leather that look and feel as classy as it gets.   It’s the same story in the cabins where the master suite bursts with thoughtful styling, including …
